Learning & Achieving Together

Sociology

The sociology department strives for excellence from every learner as they analyse societal behaviour from individuals who negotiate their way around complex cultural norms and values, applying their studies to every day experiences. By fostering a genuine interest in the subject through daily application of skills and knowledge, and a commitment to fostering independent learning skills, we aim to ensure that every student achieves excellence. Each student is supported through attending engaging lessons and the use of up to date resources, which challenge and inspire their critical thinking. Sociology students will form new perspectives of society and start to question social factors that once went unnoticed. They will analyse topics such as the education system, perspectives on the types, causes and consequences of criminal and deviant activities, and families through the lens of key sociological theories.
